This seven-panel wall hanging entitled "Splash" is inspired by the history and culture of Israel. The clay was collected from the Manara cliff in the northern part of Israel, which was evacuated since the events of October 7. These pieces result from splashing the terra sigillata, a contemporary studio pottery technique inspired by the tradition of ancient potters in Greece before the use of glaze. Roughly translated as 'sealed earth,' the popular meaning is 'clay bearing little images.' The variety of clays and the firing process produce extraordinary landscape and smoky effects.
Gibsh is an internationally acclaimed Israeli ceramicist whose work is exhibited and sold internationally, including in the Israel Museum in Jerusalem and the Land of Israel Museum in Tel Aviv. All pieces are one-of-a-kind and handcrafted in his studio in Jaffa, Israel.
