Artist Laya Crust uses inks and paint on paper to touch the soul of the viewer. Crust believes that each person is deeply touched or changed by what they encounter, and uses her art to initiate a spiritual conversation with the viewer. She gathers inspiration from her home in Toronto, as well as her background in fine art, calligraphy, and Judaic studies. The Lovers Ketubah utilizes rich layers of watercolor pigment and a unique circular format in a beautiful example of Crust’s symbolic and spiritual artistic style. In this striking design, two lovers stand together in front of their new home, surrounded by symbols of a full Jewish life. Two wedding rings entwined, a beautiful Shabbat table, the old city of Jerusalem, and the tree of life all take their places in the circle that frames the text. This engaging and detailed design will always pay tribute to the rhythm of the Jewish year and the full life that the couple will build together.
