This animated and vibrant piece depicts the seven species: wheat, barley, grape, fig, pomegranates, olive, and date. During the biblical period, these seven species were the staple foods consumed by the Jewish people in the land of Israel. They are imbued with holiness, symbols of peace, fertility and prosperity. The pomegranates with their vibrant cranberry and cherry tones are central, surrounded by wheat tile shards and violet beaded, tiled fig. The light green grape vine provides a popping contrast to those species as well as the olive and amber date components in mosaic beads and tile bits.
The artist, formerly a Boston native, is inspired by nature, biblical themes and the power of sacred symbolism. This one-of-a-kind artwork will make a cherished addition to any home or gallery collection.
