Artist Laya Crust uses inks and paint on paper to touch the soul of the viewer. Crust believes that each person is deeply touched or changed by what they encounter, and uses her art to initiate a spiritual conversation with the viewer. She gathers inspiration from her home in Toronto, as well as her background in fine art, calligraphy, and Judaic studies. The Arch of Jerusalem 2 Ketubah invites the viewer through an arch of lush blossoms to a scene of mountains, lush fields and flowing rivers. Majestic columns surround the ketubah text, crowned by an arch adorned by the glowing nighttime skyline of Jerusalem complete with well-known and treasured Jerusalem landmarks. Within the arch, a tree flourishes, symbolizing all four seasons and the many years that the couple will share together. This intricate and graceful design is finished with the phrase, “Ani l’dodi v’dodi li", “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine", and “I have found the one in whom my soul delights".
