Mosaic, Watchful Eye, Glass Shards and Mixed Media

This mosaic art piece highlights the Biblical heroine, Miriam as she attentively watches her infant brother, Moses in a basket floating along the Nile River after she has set him there to save him from Pharoah’s deadly decree. A dramatic golden sun rises behind her as she peeks from behind the reeds of amber, gold, ivory and green tones while the baby is highlighted against the jade green river. The graphic simplicity of form coupled with the color vibrancy is refined and contemporary. 

The mosaic art form, dating from antiquity,  is a sculptural collage of components, in this case: glass shards, tiles and stones set in a cement base.

The artist, formerly a Boston native, is inspired by Bible stories of honorable women who defy the odds with courage and fortitude.
