Artist Stephanie Caplan grew up in Newton, Massachusetts and currently lives in the East Village of New York. She draws on the energy of the city, as well as her academic background in Judaism and art history, to create ketubahs that combine art and ritual in new and surprising ways. The Inks Ketubah is a magnificent example of modern Hebrew calligraphy, directing the focus onto the words themselves and allowing the text to take center stage. Intriguing abstract ink shapes and blots form a column on the left, while the text of the ketubah extends on its right in a column of graceful hand lettering. Caplan uses white space to beautiful effect, allowing the text to breathe and bringing a modern minimalism to the piece. In this design, the artist urges the viewer to interact with the ketubah as a piece of art in its own right.
