Artist Laya Crust uses inks and paint on paper to touch the soul of the viewer. Crust believes that each person is deeply touched or changed by what they encounter, and uses her art to initiate a spiritual conversation with the viewer. She gathers inspiration from her home in Toronto, as well as her background in fine art, calligraphy, and Judaic studies. The Song of Herat Ketubah is based on a design from 19th century Herat, Afghanistan. Royal purples and blues form Persian arches and medallions, drawing the eye to delicate illustrations of wildflowers, birds, and David’s harp. The border text from the Song of Songs reads: "Arise my love and come away. For lo...the time of song has come." A lovely design full of artistry and history, this unique ketubah carries the good wishes of many previous generations in Jewish history.
